Gunn is now the head of DC Films and accused daily of destroying Snyder’s legacy by resetting the DC Universe of films. One of his most accomplished directed stories is the Dawn of the Dead remake written by James Gunn. But this is an art and Snyder is not a storytelling artist. And Snyder is one of the best visual stylists in the business. I understand the business of hiring someone who made the studio a lot of money. It’s so puzzling after the mixed reception to Watchmen, WB hired Zack Snyder to direct Man of Steel. Coupled with a story where a man makes all the wrong choices and CGI this bad makes you wonder, with a horror director at the helm why this wasn’t an even bigger disaster. That is not a lot to hang an audience relationship on and the movie literally doubles down on it with two Barries over 140 minutes. So the movie treats the audience as if they already know The Flash, yet all we really know is that he works in a crime lab, is socially awkward and his only friend is Batman. This is the first major motion picture The Flash has gotten yet it is a spinoff of the 2017 film Justice League. The second part however I can’t help with. If you don’t know about Ezra Miller’s legal troubles then the first part will be no issue. But when their rap sheet is this long and their characterization is so thin it definitely causes problems. I recall Miller using that body in real life to strangle and throw a woman to the ground.Īn actor’s criminal past is not something that has bothered me when viewing a film before. Was the darkness of the story held back from studio interference demanding a happier tone? Barry’s Dad (Ron Livingston, replacing Billy Crudup) remarks about how big Barry has gotten. This is another tale of a man who makes a mistake and spends the whole movie cleaning it up. It’s a capable performance, but it would have been better to sell the tragedy of the character. Miller lacks the innocence Barry has to make you feel he has lost anything. Although due to his status as DC’s 4th most popular hero, he would inevitably get his movie. Barry Allen has always excelled as an outsider. One thing that bothered me during the film was Ezra Miller, the Kevin Spacey of their generation. And they drag The Flash across the finish line in a capable but uninspired fashion. It fell to the screenwriter of Birds of Prey and the director of IT. Despite being a former co-president and screenwriter at DC Films Johns had no involvement with this film. The storyline is based on Geoff Johns’s comic ‘Flashpoint’. Who is the mastermind behind this film? Who wanted it to get made? Everyone agreed it should be. Through stubbornness and ego, the entire universe folded, that’s why we are here. The Rock was right, the hierarchy of the DC Universe did change. We will not see Dark Seid, the Green Lantern never arrived, and Superman never really returned. They rushed it, it was terrible, and now ten years later The Flash shambles to the finish line. sought to copy the Marvel formula of a shared universe. Coming off the monster success of the Dark Knight trilogy Warner Bros. Review: The DC Universe was doomed from the start. ‘The Flash’ runs back in time to stop his mother from being killed and his father from getting framed for it, but his attempt to save his family creates a dangerous world of villains without superheroes, forcing him to race for his life to save the future. Plot: Super speedster superhero Barry Allen a.k.a.
